Dog Day: Who’s Your Mama?

by Ricki Heller 20 Comments

For all the moms out there. . .

Whether a Mom by birth,

[My mother on her wedding day, aged 22]

a Mom by choice,

[Elsie, you’re a pretty good pillow.”]

or a Mom you hold close in your heart,

[My Mom at my wedding, aged 59, three years before she died.]

Wishing you all day filled with happiness and time with loved ones, whoever they are, and wherever they may be.  🙂

“Mum, we wish you a happy day, too.  And what do you mean, ‘Mom by choice’? Isn’t Elsie my real mother?  But–but she’s always been there, since I was born! And  I look just like her! And she lets me bug her without biting me back! And she–“

“Zip it, Chaser, Mum was talking about her and us.  I hate to break it to you, but we’re adopted. Even though I do look sort of like Mum, especially around the ears.”

“I’m devastated. But, okay, whatever, let’s play!”

Your mother was so beautiful! May we all look so good at 59. Wishing *you* a very happy Mother’s Day, Ricki. All women teach, nurture and care for others, extending the role of “mother” to all women, if we want it. *Hugs*

    Ricki,

You seriously need to get your mom to write a quest post on aging gracefully. She looks wonderful for 59! She must have a few secrets up her sleeve.

I love the posts where the pups talk. They always make me smile.

Have a great Mother’s Day! I hope the girls get you something nice. 😉

    Shellyfish,
Thanks so much–I think so, too. 🙂 And I agree–all women are mothers in their own way.

    Vegan Epicurean,
I wish she could. Sadly, she’s no longer with us–which is why she’s in my heart today. 🙂

    Alisa,
    Thanks–I can only hope I look as good when I’m 59! 😉

    Aubree Cherie,
Thanks so much. 🙂 I think it goes both ways, though–I feel very lucky to have them. (“Aw, thanks, Mum. And we’re lucky to get so many treats–oops, we mean, to have you, too.“)

All great photos, Ricki. Thanks so much for sharing. I do love those old, black and white wedding photos. Everyone just looks so much more elegant in them, especially our loved ones. Of course, the other photo of your mom is beautiful, too.

Happy Mother’s day! 🙂 I loved the dogs “talking”, too. If I had a dog, I’d do something like that too on my blog!

    Cheryl,
Aw, thanks. I don’t know if the Girls think too much about it, but I sure feel lucky to have them! 🙂

    Veganlisa,
Thanks so much. Hope your day was a happy one, too!

    Kathleen,
Thank you so much–that’s what I was aiming for.

    Jessy,
Thanks–I sure think she was wonderful! 🙂

    Healthy Apron,
Thank you so much! Hope your day was a happy one, too. 🙂

    Camille,
    Thanks–I thought so. 🙂

    Voracious Vegan,
Aw, thank you! And I like the idea of a Doggy Mommy Day! Hmm, maybe next year. . .

    Andrea,
Thanks so much. I always thought she was beautiful, but of course I’m biased! 😉

    Zoe,
Thanks! We sort of can’t help it in our house–they “talk” all the time! 😉

Hey Ricki, thanks for the comment on my blog! Isn’t E.A.T World a great idea? We can visit other countries from our own kitchens 😀

And I am a Mum-by-Choice too 😀 My 2 cats gave me lots of cuddles…maybe next year I’ll teach them how to use the computer and they’ll order something online for me! 😉
